  2. Bond-order discrimination on individual molecules and single-electron charge detection on the atomic scale using AFM
  3. On-surface synthesis by atom manipulation and characterization of products (molecules with high-spin ground states, spin switches, charge switches, reaction intermediates, radicals, diradicals, antiaromatic molecules and one-dimensional molecular wires)
  4. Charge-state manipulation of molecules and atoms and resolving the charge distribution within individual molecules by Kelvin probe force microscopy
  5. Tunneling spectroscopy with single electrons by AFM detection
