New Hiring – Shantanu Mishra

We are pleased to welcome Postdoctoral Researcher Shantanu Mishra who joined the SPRING IBM team led by Dr. Leo Gross on 01.02.2021. His main research interests lie in studying tip-induced chemistry and electronic structure of open-shell graphene nanostructures on insulating thin films using scanning tunneling microscopy and atomic force microscopy.

Adding his expertise from studying experimental condensed matter physics at University of Zurich in April 2020 in combination with the postdoctoral position he held at EMPA will be of great scientific value for IBM Research – Zurich team. That includes experience at the intersection of on-surface chemistry, nanoscale magnetism and scanning probe microscopy. Furthermore, his research at EMPA was focused on the synthesis of open-shell polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their covalently bonded nanostructures using on-surface synthesis, and detection and manipulation of spins therein using scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy.
