Highlights from the SPRING Workshop 2023

  • 2nd October 2023

Over the course of three days, the SPRING project members, along with international speakers and participants, discussed spin-related phenomena of graphene nanostructures. The SPRING Workshop brought together a diverse group of over 60 attendees, 12 invited speakers, 24 contributed talks and 15 posters.

Various topics in relation with the goals of SPRING were treated in very interesting talks and lively discussions. In particular, the attendees presented novel strategies for solution synthesis of large carbon nanostructures and organic precursors and detection of their unique structure, and magnetic properties.

A hot topic developed during various talks was the detection and simulation of collective quantum states in extended graphene nanosystems. The access to quantum properties of the open-shell graphene systems and potential strategies for their use in computational protocols were treated, providing a very interesting outlook of the potential of spins in graphene.
